I don't know what it is about summer, but inspires me to try and paint backgrounds. I did something similar last year or the year prior to that? I'm not sure, but the point is, it's fun, relaxing, and teaches me things. This painting taught me that not everything needs to be finished in one day, and it's okay to bite off tiny chunks instead of the whole damn thing.
It was also a good testing ground for various brushes I otherwise never use (why would I ever need a leaf brush when painting a human?) and I tried my hardest to fake textures of trees and grass instead of painstakingly rendering every damned leaf.

I've used a reference here [link] and I should keep doing this type of stuff to level up my background skill. One day I'll grow up to be a real artist! :]

i love your background.

they are very much alive and realistic. and then you say you are not good at it.
i personally think you have a real eye for detail in your background im very impressed.
the use of colours are amazingly effective to my eyes.
i can stare at them for hours.

I think I'm merely hard on myself because I see people that have been doing this stuff for years and I just want to be right there right now.

well i love nature, maybe that has a part to play and i think your background are an awesome display of mother natures wealth.

about beeing hard on yourself i know that feeling.
im always told ill never be pleased with myself cause i want everything to be perfect or as close possible that its hard to see it aint perfect.
i push myself to hard but i dont care i do it anyway ^^ it keeps me motivated. maybe you do it the same way?
what doesnt inprove you cant bring you down right?
